My wife, Jacqueline and I have just bought our first home together in Palmerston (see Our Home), which is a satellite suburb of Darwin, located about 25kms south of the city centre. For those of you who don't know where Darwin is, it is the Capital of the Northern Territory in Australia.

I am currently employed by Darwin City Council and am very happy in the position I have held now since 2002. I originally started there as a temp on a 5 week contract and things just expanded from there. I have an interesting job which has me dealing with a variety of customers all with problems relating to traffic control, dogs, litter, itinerants and everything else covered in the By-Laws.

When I first moved into Palmerston it was as a single Dad to two teenagers and I soon realised that being a full-time Dad and having very little contact with people other than my two kids was going to drive me crazy. So, in a desperate leap to retain my sanity I began searching, in earnest, for employment and with many thanks to the girls at Mission Employment (Palmerston), effective as of 30 August 2000, I joined the ranks at Coles Supermarkets working in the Delicatessen of the Palmerston store.

Just to make my life interesting, in February of 2001, I became a lecturer at NT University to teach Computer Operations to beginner students on a 9 week contract. The nine week contract was continued on and I went on to teach a number of IT subjects.

Up until the end of January, 2000 I was employed as the Operations Manager for Henwood Vehicle Transport . The company is owned by Tony Henwood. Tony and I go way back. We met over 20 years ago and have remained good friends through the good times and bad. Good friends are hard to find and if you can find just ONE .... that's all you'll ever need.

I have lived in many different places throughout Australia and I have to say that this is the most beautiful. Darwin is a tropical climate and the temperature variation is so minimal that it is near impossible to distinguish the change of seasons. People up here don't refer to Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring. Up here it is either the Wet or the Dry. The Wet starts around November and finishes about April. IT RAINS .... LOTS. It is also very, very humid. During the Dry it's just that .... dry. NO RAIN ... NEVER ... well hardly ever. It's a climate that is very hard to get used to. It's a hard climate that has bred a pretty tough people, many of who are my friends and who I respect.
